A special meeting of committee members was called
on January 25 to decide on various items for the reunion event in April. In attendance
were Daisy Delgado-Vergara, Margie Molina-Tolentino, Jacqueline Palma-Soriano, Helen Panaligan-Crist, Lito Pangan, Lina Ora-Santos,
Tibo Santos, Clem Tagle and Reynald Ticsay.
Thanks to Lina and Tibo for hosting us again and
we sure hope di pa sila sawah sa amin. As always, the food marathon was on, starting
with the spread from our hosts. Thanks to Reynald for bringing the seafood pasta
and thanks for the pre-taste of the buko salad. Double workout kami tuloy ni
Margie. Jackie as always, bow kami sa iyong special pancit dish. Thanks to everyone who enjoyed my sisters recipe (now mine) of cassava bibingka. Buti na lang kundi triple workout naman ako. Daisy youll get
the recipe, pero promise I have precedence kung sipagin akong gumawa ha? Bilib
naman ako kay Margie for thinking of the toothpick diet. Tibo was honing his
emceeing skills on us but we will be warning everyone to time their bites and sips, para hindi ma-Heimlich.
Heres the mostly serious part of our meeting:
ITEMS DISCUSSED:
A.
Philippine Reunion Updates
·
Souvenir Program there is an extra p600 from the funds converted to pay for the 2 full pages of Ad in the Phil. Souvenir
Program. We decided to use those funds to buy 3 raffle tickets at p200 in the
Phils. The cost breakdown per person will be emailed to everyone who was included
in the pictures by next week. We request that everyone pay at the meeting in
two weeks.
B.
U.S. Reunion Updates
·
Margie will check with Monte Carlo Hotel if they can waive the bartender fee should they sell a certain amount of
drinks at our event.
·
The committee decided on the menu choices and hope that everyone will be pleased with the choices.
·
There were some inquiries about bringing children to the affair. Margie
mentioned that the Hotel offers childrens meals. Arrangements for children at
the event will be considered at the next meeting.
·
The February 28th deadline for the $100 per person ticket remains.
A final deadline for late payments at $110 per person will be on March 31st.
All committee members are reminded to inform other batch reps of this final deadline.
·
No tickets will be sold at the door.
This will assist the committee members in charge of registration to avoid mass confusion at the registration desk.
·
Tibo showed us the official banner for our batch. Margie will check with
the Hotel where the banner could be displayed.
·
Margie reports that depending on what other events are scheduled at the Hotel, we may only have 1 hour before the
event to set-up. So, all committee members will be asked to be at the ballroom
at 5 pm sharp. If, however, there are no other events at the site, we may be
allowed to set-up in the morning or at 2 pm. Please be available to help set-up
as well.

Other Committee Reports/Updates:
·
Public Relations
o Newspaper announcement Helen emailed
Kuya Mon (71) and Tibo the revised announcement for newspaper/magazine print ads. Helen
reported that Kuya Mon has not heard from his contact at Phil. News. Tibo has,
however, ran the first ad this week with the California Examiner, which covers all of CA.
The ad will run another 3 weeks (issues) of said newspaper.
o E-vite Lito continues to send E-vites
to new names, 78 and other batch, for headcount purposes. There are so far 54who
have RSVPd (including spouses) from our batch alone, plus 15 from other batch
years. Lito sent the Evite to Evan (74), Robert (86) and Mon (71) for their batch
group. Evites cannot, however, be sent to group addresses, so Lito suggested
that Evites be forwarded to other alum that hasnt received them individually. Thanks
to Lito for all his hard work sending Evites and adding names (instead of email addrs) to the RSVP list. Again, please inform Lito if you receive RSVPs by phone or in person.
o Follow-up assignments All committee
members are asked to follow-up with other batch reps and encourage them to participate in the planning meetings.
·
Website
o Website Reynald reports that there
have been several visits to our website since our last meeting.
o USTHS 78 permanent website (USTHS78USA.tripod.com) please continue to direct other alum to this website.
o Group email address (USTHS78@hotmail.com) this email addrs is listed on the newspaper ad, so we expect to get more emails re the event.
·
Budget/Finance
o To date, we received payments for
36 attendees, 12 of whom are fully paid. All committee members are also encouraged
to pay at the next meeting.
o Budget for the event was a main discussion
topic. Everyone agreed to limit the funds to be used for the give-aways. Helen prepared a preliminary budget but still needs quotes/estimates from everyone
with possible expenses. Clem suggested that we prepare a proposed budget for
100 attendees. A revised budget will be prepared and presented by Helen at the
next meeting.
o Bank Account Reynald, Margie and
Helen met at WAMU before the meeting to add Margies name as co-signatory to the account.
·
Montage Presentation
o Margie has received several pics
from other alum for the montage. Reminder -- the last day to submit pictures
is March 15, 2003.
·
Souvenir Program/Solicitation Letter/Ad Form
o Margie will request for a msg. from
Cardinal Mahoney or the Cardinal from Las Vegas to be included in the Souvenir Program
o It was suggested that each committee
member solicit at least 5 full ad pages.
o Margie also mentioned that to encourage
members to solicit there would be a prize for the member or batch rep that could solicit the most number of full pages of
ad.
o Again, we emphasize that in order
for us to meet all financial needs of this big event; all committee members as well as all batch representatives must start
soliciting for sponsorship. This will be a group effort.
·
Give- aways/Decorations
o It was decided that, for now, we
will limit the no. of items to be included as give-aways.
o We are still waiting for the final
version of the 75th Anniversary logo.
o We decided to use a photo-quality
printer for the souvenir picture of each alum.
o There will be five committee members
who will be available in Las Vegas the Friday before the event to prepare the give-away bags.
o We need volunteers to help us with
the gift bags and decorations, so please let us know if you can help on Friday (4/25) or Saturday (4/26) before the event. The more the merrier (and quicker)!
o Margie showed a suggested sample
of a table centerpiece. She will get a quote for each centerpiece. We welcome other suggestions for reasonably priced centerpieces.
o Helen will check with Lots if we
can find a local LV vendor to provide balloon decorations for the photo shots, i.e. balloon arch and bouquet.
·
Entertainment
o Lito reported that they have narrowed
the DJ to 2-3 choices.
o The preliminary program for the event
was discussed and Lito will be asked to report on its progress at the next meeting.
o So far, there are two other batch
years that will be presenting a number during our program.
·
Roster/Directory
o There are now 65 names on our list
of 78 graduate (US and Canada only). The rest of the 208 names found are either
in the Phils. or in other countries. Please visit our website for the full directory
list.
o Again, thanks to those who continue
to assist in finding other fellow grads, both by phone calls and email.
o Please keep those names coming. Everyone truly appreciates making the connection with long-lost HS friends.
D.
Next meeting will be on February 8, 2003 (1:00pm) at Janets place. Directions will follow later.
Again, thank you to everyone who continue to share their time and talents in our
event planning. We hope to see you at the next meeting.
