Reynald,Lina,Helen,Wattie,Perla,Eden,Jackie,Margie,Janet,Daisy         Tibo,Ferdie,Clem & Manny

Thanks to everyone who attended our meeting on Sunday, 10/6/02.   There was a clamor to ID those in the pics from previous meetings.  So, heres a roll of the attendees at this meeting (maybe this would give you clues).  Have fun matching the faces with the following names: Ferdie Agbayani, Janet Castro-Narag, Daisy Delgado-Vergara,  Margie Molina-Tolentino, Jacqueline Palma-Soriano, Helen Panaligan-Crist, Lina & Tibo Santos, Reynald Ticsay, Clem Tagle and Perla Tabora-Long.  Special attendees were Wattie Reyes-Molina and Manny Wright, straight from the Philippines and Hawaii.  So, they get the honor of coming from the farthest.  Sorry, Jackie maybe next time.

Again, many thanks to Lina and Tibo for hosting us a second time.  Jackies guinataan was original.  Were all joking that if we keep this up we may gain more unwanted pounds by the time we have our reunion. Time for the Ti-bo regiment.

For your convenience, we have added a page that lists the Key Dates of our event planning (US and Phils.).

ITEMS DISCUSSED:

A.            Philippine Reunion Updates

Wattie gave us some updates on the plans for the Philippine reunion:

·         Date & venue has been finalized:  February 15, 2003, Westin Plaza Hotel (Roxas Boulevard).

·         Cost: P900 per person.  Theres a 15% discount on hotel accommodations, through the USTHS Alumni Officers.

·         Fundraising activities planned include a Golf Tournament, Shooting Competition, Souvenir Program (Advertising), RaffleTickets.

·         Details of the Golf Tournament and Shooting Competition will be released as soon as they become available.

·         Souvenir Program sponsors are being solicited for the Souvenir Program.  Donations range from P1,000 (Sponsor Level) to P25,000 (Outside Back Cover ad level).  The souvenir program will have 80 pages.  Copies will be free to those who donate funds at the Sponsor or above level, whether in attendance or not. Weve decided to donate and sponsor as a group, so stay tuned for an announcement before the Dec. meeting.  Anyone else interested in making individual donations, please contact Wattie Reyes-Molina at wrm421@info.com.ph  Deadline for payment and pictures or company ad layout is November 30, 2002.

·         Raffle tickets will be sold for P200 a piece.  They would like to sell all 2,000 tickets printed.  However, tickets were not ready when Wattie left the Philippines.  First prize will be P100,000.  Winner need not be present.  Weve also decided to pull together our resources and buy raffle tickets as a group. We will determine later how many tickets we can get. Again, those interested in purchasing raffle tickets separately, please contact Wattie Reyes-Molina.

·         Proceeds from fundraisers will be used to purchase a Laminating ID Machine for the USTHS about P250K.

Other items discussed by Wattie:  The Phil. Reunion Planning Committee/USTHS Alumni Officers meet every first Friday of the month.  Their target number of 78 graduates to attend is 122, since there are already 122 77 graduates confirmed to attend. They started with seed money of P100K from last years fundraisers courtesy of the 77 Batch.  A deposit of P65K was made to reserve the hotel.

A suggestion was made to give out a scholarship prize.  Wattie mentioned that yearly tuition at USTHS is P36K per student.  If the fundraising efforts are a success, they may consider giving out a scholarship prize.

B.         U.S. Reunion Updates

·         Date & venue has been finalized:  April 26, 2003, Monte Carlo Hotel (Las Vegas) through Blast from the Past (BFTP).

·         Cost:  $100 per person.   A non-refundable deposit of $50 per person will be due by December 30, 2002.  All remaining balances will be due by February 7, 2003.  (Per Janets suggestion - additional tickets will be available after the February deadline at $110 per person.  Remaining balances paid after the February deadline will be charged at the higher rate.)  So, it would be best if you purchase your tickets early.

·         Checks may be made payable to either: Margie Molina-Tolentino, Helen Panaligan-Crist or Reynald Ticsay.

·         Margie made the following clarifications with BFTP see the 9/14/02 minutes for other services provided by BFTP:

o        Ticket price does not include lodging.

o        Yearbook (by BFTP) will be made available after the event.  Cost per yearbook: $25

o        Pictures taken by the photographer will be for sale at $15 per picture.

o        BFTP may provide 3 bottles of apple cider per table for raffling.

o        Margie will be our contract designee with BFTP.

C.         Other Committee Reports/Updates:

·         Public Relations

o        Announcement - Lina showed everyone copies of the preliminary announcement we will use for print ads in magazines & newspapers.  Everyones consensus was to use the yellow/gold version.  Margie suggested to get the UST logo from Tatak Filipino.  Lina will modify the announcement to use the old logo.

o        Advertising print and media ads will be handled byTibo as soon as weve signed a contract, around November.

o        E-vite Lito created the E-vite for our reunion that will serve as both the electronic invitation and survey to get the headcount of attendees.  Helen will work with Lito to simplify the E-vite.

o        USTHS Alumni of America Christmas Ball Margie, Jackie, Tibo & Lina will be attending this event in Green Valley Ranch, Las Vegas, NV to network with other USTHS graduates.  The Organizers of this event would like to reserve a table for our batch, so please contact Margie Molina-Tolentino if youre interested in attending this event.

o        Follow-up assignments - all committee members will be asked to assist in following-up with confirmations by phone.

·         Website

o        USTHS 78 permanent website (USTHS78USA.tripod.com) Reynald created a permanent website for our group for centralized information, with various links to sites for UST, the 78 Batch Yahoo groups (US & Philippines).  Although some links may need sign-up/registration, this site does not require it.  Minutes and pictures of planning meetings will be posted at this site.  We will be directing fellow graduates via email to this site for planning updates.  Special thanks to Clem and Eden Tagle for letting us use their webpage as a temporary site.

o        Group email address (USTHS78@hotmail.com) Reynald established a group email address which we have used since September to gather mailing addresses.  For now, only Reynald and Lina have access to all emails sent to this address.  Lina will be sending the list of addresses to BFTP so they can send the invitations/programs to confirmed attendees.

·         Budget/Finance

o        An account will be established at Washington Mutual Bank, through Perla Tabora-Long.  Helen will set-up a PO Box address to receive checks and pictures; and, record the ticket sales in a ledger.  Reynald will deposit the checks and Margie will be in charge of disbursements.  All three will be co-signatories to the account. Excess funds will be added to our donations to USTHS.

·         Souvenir Program

o        Lina will be creating the Souvenir Program which will be made available to all event attendees.  If you are able to assist in this, please contact Lina.

o        Lito and Margie will create a slide presentation containing a montage of before and after pictures.

o        So, dust off those pictures from yesteryears or take new ones with your families and send them to Lina by December 31, 2002.  Pictures will be returned after the event.  Or email your pictures to either Lito or Margie by December 31, 2002.  Remember, Christmas pictures would be perfect for these submissions.

·         Entertainment -

o        Lito and Janet would like to get suggestions for the entertainment program.  Please email them for any suggestions.  We might have a skit from our own Dolphy and Panchito duo  (aka Tibo & Manny).

·         Roster/Directory

o        We continuing to add more names.  Thanks to those assisting us in this effort.  There are now 44 names on our list (US and Canada only).

o        We requested Wattie to inform us of other USTHS graduates residing in the US and Canada.

o        Helen has emailed Voltaire Tiņana (Batch 77) for a list of former USTHS faculty now residing in the US or Canada.

o        We continue to need assistance in search of other fellow 78 graduates specially those in the East Coast and Northern California.  Please help us in this effort.

D.         Next meeting will be a combined Planning and Christmas Party on December 7, 2002. Venue TBA later.

Thank you to everyones assistance and sharing their time and talents.  We hope to see you at the next meeting/Christmas party.

Helen Panaligan-Crist

Addendum:

By popular request, we have reconsidered opening the event to all 1970s and 1980s USTHS graduates.  We can all unite and celebrate USTHS 75th Anniversary.  Please help us spread the word around.
